All Earth is Waiting: Good News for God’s Creation at Advent by Katie Dawson. Quite simply, we have a responsibility to care for this earth in preparation for Christ’s return. This is the message of All Earth is Waiting. Explore the familiar Advent themes of hope, preparation, joy, and peace with the heavens and earth in mind and consider how all creation longs for the coming of Christ, taking seriously the notion that the good news of Christ is good news for all the world. Designed for individual or small-group use, each chapter of this Bible study offers questions for reflection and a brief prayer as well as Advent candle lighting liturgies, a call to worship, a prayer of confession, and hymn suggestions.

All Creation Waits: The Advent Mystery of New Beginnings by Gayle Boss. Advent is the season of dwindling light and gathering cold – with a mystery at its core. Animals of the northern hemisphere enact that mystery. Watching them, we can find a way to face our primal fear of the dark and cold, a healthier way than falling into depression or spiraling into frenzied distraction. For each day of Advent, All Creation Waits opens a window onto the world of an animal amazingly, ingeniously adapting when darkness and cold descend. The animals show us in twenty-four different ways the deep mystery and abiding truth at the heart of the Christ story: The dark is not an end, but the way a new beginning comes.

Reimagine Advent: Discover the Liberating Christ, new Advent resource from Religion and Race. This Advent resource is an invitation for Christians to read Scripture and consider this holy season from the perspective of people who live at the margins of society because of colonialism, racism, and economic injustice. The good news is that Jesus came, not only to save our souls, but to bring new life and restoration to the powerless and to cast down those who would oppress. That should be cause for celebration and reflection by all Christians.

Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times by Katherine May. Wintering is a poignant and comforting meditation on the fallow periods of life, times when we must retreat to care for and repair ourselves. Katherine May thoughtfully shows us how to come through these times with the wisdom of knowing that, like the seasons, our winters and summers are the ebb and flow of life.

The course is for lay and ordained preachers and worship leaders who wish to develop greater confidence when preaching about the climate crisis. Sometimes preaching about climate change can feel daunting in the face of claims that it’s too political, not the church’s business, or that one doesn’t understand the science. This course will help you to preach with confidence the Christian gospel into the climate crisis. The course is open to anyone of any denomination and none.
