Engaging Younger Generations in Creation Justice
For the September Café, we will focus on some of the big things happening in youth and young adult spaces. As we step boldly into the future of the church, our opportunity is to listen and listen more to the young leaders in our denomination about how they understand faithful action and discipleship. Speakers will share take aways from the work of the Wesley Foundations and from the United Methodist Campus Ministers Association Summer Institute, as well as from recent young people’s gatherings in Ireland, at the United Methodist Global Young People’s Convocation.
Speakers
Audra and Jacob Stone
Pastor Audra Hudson Stone and Jacob Stone are the co-convenors of the Environmental Justice Taskforce of the Michigan Conference UMC and the North Central Jurisdiction Network of the United Methodist Creation Justice Movement. In November 2023, they served as young adult representatives of the UMC to the 2023 World Council of Churches Eco-School, focused on faith-based responses to climate change and environmental degradation.
Audra studied public ministry and ecological regeneration at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and currently serves as the campus minister for the Central Michigan University Wesley Foundation. She also serves as the Michigan Conference Secretary of Global Ministries. Jacob has a background in environmental science and biology and has worked in outdoor education and UMC camping ministries. Jacob also serves as the co-chair of the Michigan Conference Board of Justice and as the conference’s Caretaker for God’s Creation.
Rev. Jen Hibben
Rev. Jen Hibben (she/her) is the Director of the Vine student ministry program at Collegiate Presbyterian Church. Jen is a United Methodist Pastor and Social Worker who’s been a part of the Ames/ISU community since 2017. Campus Ministry is her jam. She likes breaking rules, asking questions and taking students to coffee. Jen is married to Josh. She has 3 children, 3 chickens, and a cat.
