South Central:

The SCJ group meets regularly on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 3:00 pm CT.

At our January 2026 meeting we provided updates and check-ins from those attending and then we had an incredible program on plastics pollution led by Susan March of the Missouri Annual Conference. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, February 10.

If you are interested in being a part of this team, email Mel Caraway at mel.caraway@sbcglobal.net or Elizabeth McCormick at emccormick@umcmission.org.

Western:

The Western Jurisdiction group meets for an hour on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 1 pm Alaska / 2 pm Pacific / 3 pm Mountain Time.
Contact Joan Pell at climatejustice@cnumc.org to be added to the email list.

At our meetings we informally discuss the creation justice work that is being undertaken across the UM conferences in the Western Jurisdiction, build relationships, share ideas and talk through challenges as we offer support to one another. Topics that we have recently discussed include:

  • California-Nevada, California-Pacific and Desert Southwest successes in passing divestment legislation at their Annual Conference Sessions
  • Pacific North West’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Audit
  • Desert Southwest’s focus on water issues
  • ways to encourage churches to establish green teams
  • encouraging churches to install solar panels noting that John Pitney (Oregon-Idaho) created the Interfaith Solar Campaign (interfaith solar.org) to help faith communities go solar.
