Promoting the UM Creation Justice Movement at your Annual Conference

As I write this, I’m just back from attending the 2022 Minnesota Annual Conference. For the first time since 2019, we were able to gather in person at the convention center in St. Cloud, MN. That allowed our Minnesota Hopeful EarthKeepers to connect with each other over meals and in the hallways, and to do a little outreach as well. We set up a simple display table with books and a plant, chatted with folks as they stopped by and shared resources.

Promotional Materials and Display Table Resources

Here are some materials that have been created by the UM Creation Justice Movement Communication Team and Global Ministries EarthKeepers that you can use to do this kind of outreach too.

• SIGN-UP SHEET: A simple customizable signup sheet for people to share their name and email address so you can let them know about upcoming Creation Justice related activities in your conference
• EARTHKEEPER MATERIALS: Flyers, posters and graphics promoting the next EarthKeeper training available HERE and HERE.
• UM CREATION JUSTICE MOVEMENT BUSINESS CARDS: Business cards with information about the UM Creation Justice Movement. One-sided and two-sided versions that can be printed and cut are available HERE. Open the pdf file, send to your printer. Use a paper cutter or scissors to cut to size.
• UM CREATION JUSTICE MOVEMENT FLYERS: Four 8.5×11 flyers (same content, different designs) that can be used as a table-top display or to be hung on bulletin boards. They all have a QR code that links back to the umcreationjustice.org website. Rather than printing multiple copies, encourage people to take pictures with their cell phones.
• WEBSITE QR CODE: The QR code that links to the umcreationjustice.org website is also available as a graphic that you can add to your materials if you wish. If people are new to using QR codes, use this as an opportunity to teach people how to use them to save on paper.

Electronic Outreach

If your conference is not meeting in person, you can still do Creation Justice outreach electronically. Share the above graphical resources in email groups and through social media posts. Share links to the umcreationjustice.org website (and to your local Creation Justice team if you have one) in a Zoom Chat. Say a bit about why you are involved and encourage folks to get connected too. Forward a copy of the latest Creation Justice Movement Tips or Update Newsletter. Direct people to resources from United Women in Faith or Church and Society.

These are just a few ideas to get you started. Please share any other outreach materials and ideas you are creating back to us at umcreationjustice@gmail.com. And let us know if there are other materials you would find helpful for us to develop.

The movement to expand Creation Justice work through the United Methodist Church is growing thanks to all of you, through every conversation and every shared message. Thank you!
