Advance Projects
The Caretakers of God’s Creation Advance #3021953 helps congregations “green” their churches and join together with other churches in their communities. Caretakers of God’s Creation now serves as the fiscal agent for the broader United Methodist Creation Justice Movement. Donations to this advance will support the coordinating, communications and organizing work that is building the movement across our denomination in local churches and annual conferences and in partnership with boards and agencies like Church and Society, United Methodist Women, Global Ministries EarthKeepers and more.
Global Ministries Programs
The Environmental Sustainability Advance #3021951,in response to the church’s call for global action on the climate crisis, fosters the integration of environmental sustainability into every aspect of mission. Recent projects include: solar lanterns for schoolgirls in Sudan; a solar array to support a hospital operating room in Liberia; hybrid wind/solar energy systems for women-led businesses in Malawi, and solar for a community center serving migrants at the US-Mexico Border. This Advance also supports local churches in the US through the Global Ministries EarthKeepers program.
The Bishop Yambasu Agriculture Advance #982188 improves the capacity of small scale farmers in Africa to make informed choices in sustainable agricultural practices that will produce safe food for such farmers, their families and their communities and also in sufficient quantities to make the farmers and their communities food secure and to improve their livelihoods. The program also improves the nutrition and health of farmers and their communities through exploring the promotion and use of cheap and affordable sources of nutritious plants in the diets of families and communities.
The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Advance #3020600 Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene are essential for good health and well-being. 668 million people around the world do not have reliable access to clean drinking water and even more people lack access to water for agriculture and other household tasks to meet their everyday needs. UMCOR-WASH implements projects in countries that have the highest levels of childhood diseases and death and least access to basic WASH services.
Church and Society Programs
Donate to Church and Society. The Board of Church and Society has an active Environmental Justice program based on the UMC Social Principles that supports legislation through advocacy, educates leaders and change-makers to become grassroots activists and partners with global advocates who challenge systems of inequality. Church and Society staff and programs connect networks of United Methodist and ecumenical communities to advance peace and justice while advocating for public policies that protect the rights of all people.
United Women in Faith Just Energy for All
United Women in Faith (UWF) seeks to address the climate crisis through its climate justice priority and the Just Energy for All campaign. Through education and advocacy, UMW supports and mobilizes women of faith in the United States and around the world to pursue just energy solutions that do not harm God’s creation or communities. Particularly, UMW partners with and stands in solidarity with communities most impacted by the climate crisis, including Black, Indigenous, people of color, and low-wealth communities in the United States and countries least responsible for climate change. The Women’s Carbon Fund centers women’s voices and initiatives making a difference in the carbon economy. Through your funds, United Methodist Women will support the following projects:
- Women led projects that lower C02 emissions that contribute to climate change.
- Women led projects that help women, families and communities whose lives have been affected by climate change adapt to new conditions.
- Climate and energy advocacy initiatives led by women for women – enabling solutions that bring about greater equity, along with sustainability.
