A group of UM solar advocates and leaders from a variety of states and conferences have joined together to find ways for churches to go solar in an environment of hostility to renewables from the federal government. The removal of tax incentives has been a particularly difficult obstacle, but these determined solar advocates are finding alternatives to finance solar projects for churches.

As this effort grows, it’s become increasingly important for church leaders to partner with solar advocates if they want to move their church closer to affordability and sustainability. Solar is one key way for churches to reduce costs while at the same time contributing to a growing movement to protect God’s earth.

To help move this process forward, the solar leaders group is asking any and all UM churches to complete a brief survey about their interest in going solar. Results from the survey will be shared with some major funding organizations associated with United Methodists as a way to help them understand the interest and demand from grassroot churches.

We urge you to help us get these surveys into the hands of creation care teams at all UM churches. The goals of this work are building a base of interest in going solar and showing an inventory of churches that have already put solar on their buildings. Together, we can help move resources in the direction of more and more churches within United Methodism going solar.

Let’s make United Methodist the world’s leading religious organization in changing the energy economy to clean, renewable energy!
