The Communication Team generally meets for an hour or so on the first Monday of each month, but we’re busy throughout the month supporting the larger work of the United Methodist Creation Justice Movement through four communications channels:
Newsletter
Since early 2020 this team has published a monthly update newsletter. 2022 editions demonstrated the many ways that this work is emerging across the movement, including the following topics:
COP27, Biodiversity, Higher Education, Advocacy, Worship and Music, Camping and Retreat Ministries, Annual Conference organizing, Land and Agriculture, Sustainable and Ethical Clothing, Disaster Response, Creation Justice Callings, and Creation Justice Planning.
Tips
The Creation Justice Tips newsletter has also gone out monthly with 10 quick but powerful suggestions for taking action. We know from reader feedback that these are being shared widely across the connection through church bulletins and newsletters.
Café
In January 2023, we will be launching the UMCJ Movement Café to provide a monthly space for conversation and connection. We hope you will join us. We plan to meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 1 ET | 12 CT | 11 MT | 10 PT.
Website
Through 2022, the Movement’s website at umcreationjustice.org has seen significant additions and enhancements. It now serves as a central location to get connected to annual conference activities, find worship and music resources, take action on advocacy opportunities, and read inspiring stories and ideas from others doing this work.
In the coming year we welcome your ideas for newsletter themes, tips, website content, and guests for the Cafe´. We also want to lift up your stories and ideas. And we warmly welcome content ideas: events, resources, theme ideas, articles, videos, etc. that we can share in future newsletters. Contact umcreationjustice@gmail.com to learn more.
We also encourage folks to share our newsletters in your networks and join ongoing conversations happening through social media channels.
Our role is to help connect United Methodists doing this work of creation justice. If you have skills in database management, social media, writing, editing, design, marketing, podcasting, video conferencing, and so forth, we welcome you to talk with Cathy Velasquez-Eberhart about joining the CJM’s Communication Team.
