August News
What steps are you taking to break free from fossil fuels? In this newsletter, a few of us decided to share our “breaking free” stories about changes we are making in our households and our congregations. Not because we are experts, but in order to inspire others to take action too. We also hope it inspires you to share stories of actions you have taken.
How are you working to lower your dependence on fossil fuels? Have you made changes to your household or congregational heating and cooling systems? Installed solar panels? Added insulation and improved energy efficiency? Have you changed your transportation methods? Adjusted how you eat and where you get your food? Are there other actions you are taking that are not on this initial list?
This August newsletter focuses on these practical ways to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. While educational efforts to increase awareness, organizing to grow the movement, and advocacy for larger systemic changes are all critical, we can and are taking significant practical actions in our lives and our communities and so we want to celebrate those too. Additionally, with the elimination of many of the federal credits supporting these kinds of actions in the near future, the window is closing to take advantage of financial incentives that make these actions easier. We hope a focus on these practical measures at this time encourages more people to take action quickly.
Please take a moment to jot down your “breaking free of fossil fuels” story. Sharing it with others will increase the impact of your personal actions. You can share it with your congregation, with your annual conference communications team and in your local community. We hope you’ll also share it with us by sending it to umcreationjustice@gmail.com or filling out the form here.
