The ethos of creation care runs deeply in the culture of United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries. From the influences of “field preaching,” camp meetings, and Epworth League institutes on modern camping to the natural surroundings that our current camp and retreat centers inhabit, creation is an integral part of the camp experience. These beautiful environments, which God has called us to steward, are the catalysts for campers and guests to intentionally experience the beauty and wonder of the natural world.
Our United Methodist camp and retreat leaders understand the value and responsibility of providing a space where people can seek God outdoors. It is through the experience of finding God and being found by God in creation that the spiritual connection between appreciating nature and caring for nature is formed. This growth around creation care is ultimately carried by our campers and guests back into society to inspire their families, friends, churches, and communities.
In a world that seems to be moving toward the destruction of creation, more and more of our camp and retreat centers are deepening their commitment to healing our world. This newsletter highlights several new initiatives that were implemented at United Methodist camps and retreat centers over the past year. These particular initiatives were funded by the 2022 Ministry Impact Grant opportunity through the United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries Association (UMCRM).
