Season of Creation Chant
Part of First Fruits and Fig Trees: To Hope and Act with Creation
Season of Creation 2024
Imagine a video including faces, voices, and outdoor settings from all over our Connection reciting a pledge “to hope and act with all creation” as part of our joint observance of the Season of Creation! Rev. Laurie Bayen has written a simple “call and response” chant that is included with the UMCJM Season of Creation worship materials, and she invites all congregations to contribute to the creation of a collaborative project that can be shown in worship on the last Sunday of the series and/or posted to your congregation’s social media channels.
To participate, record one or more voices reading through the chant in tempo (a sample video has been posted below to assist with teaching and practice). Then submit your recording (audio or video) to Rev. Bayen for inclusion in a video project to be available on the United Methodist Creation Justice Ministry website (and available for download to share with your congregation). You might get creative about “shooting on location” from your community garden or other outdoor setting.
Still photos (such as of folks working in your garden, walking in the woods, or participating in a protest) are also welcome! Please get permission from all participants using a form like the video release form we provide, or a similar one that your congregation has agreed to use. Copies of the forms you collect do not need to be submitted with the video. The local congregation that submits a video should retain copies of the forms of all participants. Contact Rev. Bayen at pastorlaurieumc@gmail.com if you would like to join in the fun! Deadline: September 16, 2024.
